Just got back from a week at Rancho la Puerta! It is located in Tecate Mexico, one hour from the San Diego airport. It is absolute heaven! 4,000 acres of amazing beauty! I have been going there since 1983, but took a break and haven’t been there since 2009.
I have met life long friend’s there over my 26 visits. I went with three of them this time. We all except one come from other states so this is our annual get together. Two of my friends from Illinois couldn’t make it this year and they were truly missed! As much as things are the same, there have been some changes all done within the spirit of the original.
It is such a special place! The beauty and spirit of the land is hard to describe. The gardens and landscaping is the most beautiful and peaceful I have ever walked through. The only negative is that it has become quite expensive. I truly love it there and wish everyone could experience it.
A typical day starts at 6am with a hike- several levels are offered from easy to vigorous. Then a delicious breakfast- organic foods from the amazing organic garden! Then off to classes. There are 26 or so offerings per day. Every hour is a choice of at least 6 classes. Yoga, spinning, Feldenkrais, pilates, water classes, tennis, meditation, stretch, sculpt with weights, dance and the list goes on.
Lunch is always fantastic- soup, shrimp tacos, salad options- really amazing food. The chef now is the best ever!
The spa is really awesome- massages, facials, treatments like reflexology, sacral cranial massage, hot stone massage, etc. The afternoon has class offerings, or there are three pools to swim in, hammocks to rest in, spa treatments to partake in or just hanging out!
Dinner is from 5:30-7:30pm. Guests may sit at big tables to meet other guests or sit at small tables with your friends. It is a really easy place to go on your own. Time to reset, relax and unplug.
Every evening and most afternoons as well, there are speakers from all over that speak about various subjects. 8-9pm
There are no cell phones in sight-a total break from everyday life. There is so much more but it is a hard experience to explain. One week here can be life changing for sure!
